LED Light Strips for Accent and Ambient Lighting
Light strips do something bulbs and lamps can't: they light a surface rather than a room. That makes them useful in the places general lighting misses — the underside of a cabinet, the back of a monitor, the edge of a stair tread, the top of a bookshelf.
They're also the easiest smart lighting to install. The strip has an adhesive backing, the controller plugs into a standard outlet, and setup runs through the Wyze app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. No hub, no wiring.
Light Strip or Light Strip Pro
The difference is segment control, not brightness or colour range. Both offer 16 million colours and full dimming.
Wyze Light Strip shows one colour across the whole run at a time. At 32.8 feet it's the longer of the two, which suits a continuous run around a room or along a long counter where a single colour is all you need.
Wyze Light Strip Pro splits the strip into individually controlled segments, so a single run can show several colours at once. That enables gradients, colour transitions along the length, and effects that respond to sound. It comes in 16.4 feet, so it's shorter and costs more — you're paying for the control, not the length.
A simple way to choose: if the strip will mostly sit at one colour or shift slowly with the room, the standard strip is better value per foot. If the lighting is part of the effect — a gaming setup, a media wall, a party space — the Pro is the one worth having.
Where people put them
Behind a television, bias lighting reduces the contrast between a bright screen and a dark wall, which makes long viewing easier on the eyes. Under kitchen cabinets, a strip lights the worktop directly rather than casting your own shadow onto it, the way a ceiling light does. Along shelving and cabinet interiors, they turn storage into display. Around a ceiling perimeter or in a cove, they give a room a second, softer light level for evenings.
Strips are rated for indoor use. For outdoor lighting, look at power and lighting.
Setting up and running several strips
Each strip pairs through the Wyze app under Power & Lighting. If the controller isn't already pulsing when you plug it in, holding the side button for seven seconds puts it into pairing mode.
Multiple strips can be set up in one pass rather than one at a time — power them all on together and each will glow a distinct colour during setup so you can name them as you go. That matters if you're lighting a whole room in sections rather than running one length.
Working with the rest of your lighting
Strips handle accent and surface lighting; they aren't a replacement for a room's main light. Most setups pair them with smart bulbs for lamps and ceiling fixtures, and switches and plugs for anything wired into the wall or plugged into an outlet. All of it runs from the same app, and all of it works with Alexa and Google Assistant, so scenes and schedules can cover the whole room at once.
